What is the teacher/student ratio?

Typically, there is 1 adult for every 8 children. However, there can be more hands-on deck when we have a university or ECE student working in our classroom. We also have a duty parent but they do not affect the ratio.

Does Magic Circle have a Daycamp?

Yes! We have one week of Daycamp August 17-21, 2026 at Magic Circle. We will play in both classrooms and outdoors. We have 2 excellent Camp Leaders, both from McGill Faculty of Elementary Education so you can be sure the planned activities will be on point!

How many school breaks or vacation closures does the preschool have?

We generally follow an elementary school closure schedule (major holidays, long weekends, March break, Summer break, etc). You will be informed well in advance of any set preschool closures.

Question 7

Does my child need to be potty trained in order to attend Magic Circle Preschool?

Accepted Answer

Yes.  Children are expected to be toilet trained by the time they begin preschool.
At the start of the school year, we may accept a child in a Pull-Up for a short transition period, provided it is used only to manage occasional accidents and not as a replacement for regular toilet use.  This transition period is typically limited to 2–3 weeks. During this time, our team will work closely with families to support the child’s independence and confidence with toileting.
If, after this period, consistent potty independence has not been achieved, we will need to review next steps. These may include parent participation in changing, a reduced schedule, or, in some cases, cancellation of registration.
Magic Circle Preschool does not offer an ongoing diapering program and is not equipped to manage frequent toileting accidents.
Our 2 classrooms were built for preschool & kindergarten use and therefore our child-sized toilets and sinks are located directly within the classroom (behind a door), allowing children to access them independently without leaving the learning environment.

My child is not yet 3. Can we still register for next year?

You can and should register in advance. Children must be 3 by September of their first year to register for our core program. We are currently accepting names for 2026-2027 and 2027-2028.

FAQ: Classroom Setup and Curriculum
Our preschool features two adjoining classrooms that provide ample space for learning and play. During independent playtimes, all the children come together to explore and engage in these generous, shared spaces.
For Circle Time and other age-specific learning activities, the children are divided into age groups to ensure that the curriculum is tailored to their developmental stages. This approach allows us to meet each child's unique needs while fostering a sense of community during shared activities.
Our carefully adjusted curriculum supports growth, learning, and fun at every age!

Does my child have to speak English or French ?

Does my child need to speak English to attend Magic Circle Preschool?
Magic Circle Preschool warmly welcomes children and families from many cultures and language backgrounds. As our program is conducted primarily in English & French, children must be able to understand and communicate their basic needs in English (for example bathroom needs, discomfort, or concerns).
Children must also be able to understand classroom routines, guidelines, and safety instructions so that they can participate comfortably and safely in the program.
Please note that Magic Circle Preschool does not specialize in English or French as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Children will need to have a basic understanding and ability to communicate in English or French before starting the program.
